Founded in 1878 as the Sauvie Sand Works, the Sauvie Island Sand & Gravel company has been responsible for nearly 20% of the sand, gravel and concrete produced for building in southern Cascadia.

Sauvie is still mostly a family business with the heir of the original Sauvie family, the reclusive Dr. Marc Sauvie controlling more than 51.2% of the shares of the company.
